Sentinel-1 RTC

Coming later Sentinel-1 carries a C-band synthetic aperture radar, which sees through cloud and works at night. This collection is radiometrically terrain-corrected backscatter (gamma0) from the Interferometric Wide swath mode at 10 m, as Microsoft Planetary Computer publishes it.

Schema v1 defines this collection, but lean v1 does not serve it yet. Requests for it answer 404 unknown-collection. GET /v1/collections will list it once it is live.

Collection id sentinel-1-rtc
Aliases sentinel-1-rtc (Planetary Computer), S1RTC (satellitedata.net short form), Sentinel-1-RTC (CDSE S3 prefix)
Platforms sentinel-1a, sentinel-1b, sentinel-1c, sentinel-1d
Expected time span 2014-10-10 to ongoing
Resolution 10 m
Units LINEAR_POWER, DB
Tile zoom 8 to 15
Planned source sentinel-1-rtc in https://planetarycomputer.microsoft.com/api/stac/v1
Build plan Phase P4

Layers: VV, VH, HH, HV.

  • Values in LINEAR_POWER or DB. Radar has no reflectance and no cloud mask.
  • Ascending and descending passes stay separate queryables, because their backscatter differs.
  • Over land the polarizations are usually VV and VH; HH and HV are mostly acquired over polar regions.
  • The time span is what schema v1 expects. The live collection document will publish the extent measured from the index.
  • Phases refer to the build plan; see the Data overview.
