Changelog

Every change to the service is recorded here with its date. Within /v1 changes are additive; see Versioning.

  • Lean v1 deployed: live at https://api.satellitedata.net/v1 from 16 October 2026. It is the part of the v1 contract the current setup can serve, with the contract’s paths, ids, band names, parameters and error format. See the API reference.
  • Collections sentinel-2-l2a and landsat-ot-l2 (Landsat 8 and 9), with every schema v1 alias, such as S2L2A, sentinel-2-c1-l2a, landsat-c2-l2 and LOTL2.
  • STAC catalog and search with the query, sort and fields extensions; previews; the true-color, false-color and ndvi presets; tiles and TileJSON; POST /v1/process and process jobs; the OpenAPI document and schema v1.
  • Errors, including the gateway’s own (bad key, rate limits, quota, timeouts), are RFC 9457 problem documents whose type points at this site’s problem pages. Contract routes not in lean v1 answer 404 not-found.
  • The monthly spending stop now covers the API as well.
  • New Data section with one page per collection. Sentinel-2 L2A and Landsat 8-9 Level-2 have full pages: basic facts, every band with its names, wavelength, scale, offset and nodata, the SCL classes and QA_PIXEL and QA_RADSAT bits, search properties, presets and example requests. The eleven collections still to come have short pages from schema v1.
  • Sentinel-2 data availability: Earth Search’s Collection 1 index was missing most 2022 scenes and part of 2017 to 2019 over two test areas, compared with its original index on 16 October 2026. See Data availability.
  • Sentinel-2 AOT and WVP are listed at 20 m, the resolution Earth Search serves, instead of 10 m.
  • The lean v1 route list was fixed: the routes of the v1 contract that the setup on Earth Search can serve.
  • The search and tile APIs moved from their default AWS addresses to stac.satellitedata.net and tiles.satellitedata.net. See Older hosts.
  • Sentinel-2 and Landsat tiles, search and key enforcement were tested on the live deployment.
  • The per-key rate limit was raised from 10 to 50 requests a second (bursts of 100), because the lower limit rejected about a third of tile requests while panning a map. The monthly quota stays at 100,000 requests per key.
  • New download API on tiles.satellitedata.net: every spectral band of a scene over a box as one tiled, deflate-compressed GeoTIFF in the local UTM zone, with band names, scales and offsets stored in the file. Links work for an hour; files are deleted after a day. Up to 150 million band-pixels per request.
  • Bands by asset name or Sentinel Hub name (B04, B8A, SCL, QA_PIXEL, …), units (DN or REFLECTANCE), harmonize (none or offset_removed), and the output grid by crs, resolution, resolution_deg or an exact size.
  • Mosaics across tile edges with items (up to 6 scenes of one pass) or a datetime window, least cloudy first or order: "as_given", with items_used in the response.
  • output: "per_band" for one GeoTIFF per band, and preview for a true-colour PNG of the box with its valid_fraction.
  • POST /downloads/jobs and GET /downloads/jobs/{id} render larger requests in the background: up to 600 million values and 2.4 billion values × scenes, five minutes per job, at most four jobs at a time. Job records are deleted with their files after a day.
  • clamp: true sets converted values below zero to zero, Sentinel Hub’s harmonizeValues behaviour. It applies with harmonize: "offset_removed" or units: "REFLECTANCE".
  • An automatic monthly spending stop. If it trips, rendering, downloads and jobs stop while search keeps working.
  • The web map at map.satellitedata.net went live: search Sentinel-2 and Landsat scenes for the area on screen, view them as true colour, false colour or NDVI, show results as one mosaic, and download every band of a scene over the map view as one GeoTIFF with Download this area.
  • The tile server was tested against the live Earth Search: Sentinel-2 true colour, false colour, NDVI and mosaics of chosen scenes.
  • The v1 API design, OpenAPI contract and schema v1 were written. The owner approved anonymous catalog reads and search under per-IP limits, and anonymous tiles only as cache hits, for the full contract.
